Language features and its Importance
Throughout the history of humanity, language is considered to be the practical mode of communication. Language has always been the prime factor of communication that has evolved over time, and different people use different styles and tones. With the help of language, people speak and share their thoughts and ideas. Language is used to communicate in two ways- verbally and writing. Both ways help establish communication between two or more people.
Each language comes with different styles, tones, and features. And while speaking or writing, you have to follow these tones, features, and styles to have a great command over the language. Therefore, one must have the basic knowledge of the language to speak or write fluently. Furthermore, for communication, one needs to express his/her feelings to another person, and language is the medium for that.
In this blog, we have shared some language features and methods that can help students build their communication skills. Communication through language can be academic or personal, formal or informal, written or documented, and a lot more.
Language feature
The main purpose of language is to help readers and listeners understand what the writer or speaker wants to convey. A person conveying his message to the readers uses language as a weapon to share his feelings and ideas. And for doing that, he uses various styles, methods, and techniques to influence the readers. Now with the help of the language feature, you can very simply differentiate between various writing styles, techniques of language and understand what the person is saying.
At present, there are two types of language features that are accepted by people. These language features are as follows-
Persuasive language: With the help of this language feature, the writer tries to persuade the reader’s mind and influence them to make certain decisions.
Descriptive language: With the help of this language feature, the writer describes or explains something. This is often used to explain an incident or a product.
Explanation of persuasive language
Evidence: As per the audience requirements, the writing here is generally paraphrased.
Inclusive language: Words like “us, we, they” fall under this category. The writer uses these terms to motivate and inspire the readers. These are commonly used by political leaders.
Exclusive language: Words like “them, house, they” fall under this category. With the help of these terms, the writer highlights a section of people who are considered out of a group.
Rhetoric language: These sentences are used to instigate and create hype among people so that they take a certain action. It is more like trying to instigate people by saying that they cannot do it. The main purpose is to make them perform it.
Imaginary: Here, the writer tries to give a vivid description of the place so that people are able to get a cinematic idea of their mind.
Repetition: This is another way of persuading other people’s minds.
Generalization: This is where you generalize a group of people.

Emotional language: This feature is very powerful as it helps set an emotional bond with the readers. The writer here tries to influence and create emotions among people.
Dialogue: If we talk about a drama here, then the dialogue feature is very common. The writer tries to use the dialogue language feature to give life to fictional and non-fictional characters. Dialogues are generally written in quotes as they are spoken by different people.
Figurative language: When a writer tries to use sentences, but the meaning of those sentences is beyond those words, then we count it under figurative language. It comes with a deeper meaning. This writing are often used to add intensity to the content.
Colloquial language: This pattern is used in everyday talking, which is why it comes in an informal tone. This language is influenced depending upon the place and its surroundings. Because every place has a different dialect, speed, tone, and pattern of speaking.
